Great location just off Via Maqueda. I loved the clean, basic room with good air conditioning, though it got a bit noisy at times. Shower pressure was strong. Staff members were consistently helpful, offering great recommendations for local restaurants. Breakfast was decent, but the croissants could have been fresher. The shower in my room was a bit small, and I struggled with the bathroom layout sometimes. On one morning, it would have been great to have more variety at breakfast since the options felt limited. I would return for the location and staff support.

Likes: Clean, comfortable and relatively spacious room and washroom, at affordable price.
Dislikes: 1. Staff - They speak no English, so they cannot give information on sightseeing or buses to take. There isn't even any tour brochure at the hotel. 2. Noise - Even with earplugs, I could still hear the music from nearby bars at night. 3. The 100m or so lane leading to the hotel is really quiet and lined with abandoned buildings, not sure about the safety. 4. Breakfast - The worst coffee in Italy and the same stale croissant and bread every day.

I would really have nothing to complain about the Columbia. The interior is spotlessly clean - even if the approach is somewhat intimidating. Staff are supremely friendly and helpful; my wife (who had a recent hip replacement) found difficulty with the 66 steps from the street to our room and a request for one at a lower level resulted in being found accommodation in a self-contained 3-roomed apartment at first floor level ! There was no question of any extra charge for this. Reception staff were most helpful with maps and directions to theatres, restaurants, early morning calls and so on. All "must-see" places are within walking distance. 3 markets are nearby, as are marvellous Sicilian restaurants. Breakfast (if not cordon bleu) was more than adequate. As for the cost: I really do not know how they manage to keep this down to the level we experienced - many hostels would be more expensive !
Cynthia is somewhat deaf and was thus spared the weekend noise from nearby disco / booze areas. Fortunately, I had earplugs brought to enable napping in the plane - these were a godsend. The wifi was a little temperamental - but that was the situation pretty well everywhere in Palermo !

Amazing location near restaurants and shops. The bathroom was quite small, making it a bit cramped.

Don't let the temporary entrance of the hotel fool you. It was under construction when we went. If you want to discover parlermo this is a good location. Speak to eugenio the receptionist. Show him a map and he'll tell you exactly where to go for culture, great local food, clubbing etc etc etc. We had a great time at this hotel because of the staff and simple but comfortable room.

Friendly staff, very central, very clean and economic.
Insects. Perhaps the hotel could provide insect repelent devices in the rooms. I did not expect insects at the end of October and was not prepared for them.

Great location in terms of being in the centre of things and the hotel itself is very well presented (once you are in the front door). It is easy to find and the bell to open the gate to the coutyard - in which the hotel entrance is located - is clearly labelled.
I had requested a quiet room away from the noise of the bars and booked in advance. Unfortunately closed windows, shutters and ear plugs were not enough to stop the noise of 2 or 3 sources of music in my room. In the morning I asked if it would be possible to move rooms. The man on the front desk first said that there would be no noise tonight (saturday!), then that all the rooms had the same noise problem. After an argument about whether the hotel would honour the Booked.net cancelation policy or charge me more, I checked out early.

We had a boss time! The location is right in the heart of Palermo, just a short stroll to all the sights. The staff were sound and always ready to help. One downside was the nearby building work, but it didn’t bother us much.
